TERRAiNAV is a phone and browser app for display and navigation using georeferenced PDF maps and GPX routes. It runs on both iOS and Android devices and can be downloaded from the relevant app store.
TERRAiNAV is free to use, does not need a login or store any personal or location information.
Getting Started
The best way to learn how to use the app is to install the app then load the Sample Map, have a look around, then come back and read these notes to find out anything that you missed or didn’t make sense. To load the sample map on your phone:

Features and Characteristics
TERRAiNAV can …
- Display Georeferenced PDF files, GPX files and GeoTIFF images and show your position and orientation on the map
- Record tracks, waypoints, control locations and export all collected data in a variety of formats.
- Load maps and GPX files from QR codes that are easy to create.

Information Storage
TERRAiNAV does not need or store any personal information, cookies etc.
The app is free and no account or user information is required.
We built this app to replace the capability that Avenza Maps provided for our clients and for anyone out there who needs to display mapping data.
The app does however report some data to Google Analytics so that we can just see how much activity there is and what type of device people are using.
Offline use
Aside from initial installation and loading of maps, TERRAiNAV does not need a web connection to operate.
PDF maps or tracks loaded are always available off-line – this means that the app can be used for navigation in remote areas where there is no phone signal.
Map backdrops are loaded from open source providers, such as OpenStreetMap and need a web connection for the initial load. Any cached data is then available off-line.
Map Library
TERRAiNAV keeps a library of maps and tracks that you’ve loaded (called My Maps Library).
This library is initially empty and will grow as you load more maps. Maps can be quickly reloaded from the My Maps library.
