TERRAiNAV is a phone and browser app for display and navigation using georeferenced PDF maps and GPX routes.  It can be run from the web using the browser of your choice or downloaded to your Android or iOS device for use off-line.

TERRAiNAV is free to use, does not need a login or store any personal or location information.

Getting Started

To run TERRAiNAV on your phone or PC, just point your phone at this QR code.

If you are using your phone and can’t scan the QR code, just tap on the QR code and the TERRAiNAV app will open and load the map.

The best way to get started is to run the app with the loaded Sample Map, have a look around, then check out the documentation to find out anything that you missed or didn’t make sense.

Features and Characteristics

TERRAiNAV…

.. is NOT an app that you can download from the App Store or Play Store.

It is web based and standalone – this means that it uses your preferred browser (Safari, Chrome etc.) and therefore runs under the security that these system applications provide.

You can trust that it won’t compromise the integrity of your phone.

Information Storage

TERRAiNAV does not need or store any personal information, cookies etc.

The app is free and no account or user information is required. We built this app to replace the capability that Avenza Maps provided for our clients and for anyone out there who needs to display mapping data.

The app does however report some data to Google Analytics so that we can just see how much activity there is and what type of device people are using.

Offline use

Aside from initial installation and loading of maps, TERRAiNAV does not need a web connection to operate.

The app is called a PWA (Portable Web Application) which simply means that the code to run the app is downloaded to your phone home screen as a Bookmark (in Apple-speak) or Installed home screen app (in Android-speak).

When you run the app for the first time, you’ll be prompted to install the PWA. To test it, after loading a map, put your phone into Airplane mode and give it a go.

Map Library

TERRAiNAV keeps a library of maps and tracks that you’ve loaded (called My Maps).

This library is initially empty and will grow as you load more maps. Maps can be quickly reloaded from the My Maps library.
